JULY 1999 PLIM RETREAT GUIDELINES

DATE: July 29-August 1, 1999

Introduction:

To present a cohesive lecture to an audience, you must have a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Outline

  1. The intent of any outline is to give structure and focus to the topic. It is important that this structure be logical and state the topics underlying theme. The motif may be obvious or subtle, but your outline should introduce the theme at the outset to the reader.
  2. The outline should tell a story. Anyone looking at the outline (that knows absolute nothing about the topic) should be able to gleam the essence of your subject.
  3. The outline should move from general to specific or from abstract to concrete (see enclosed documents on developing an outline). The details you provide reveal the depth of your understanding on the general subject matter.
  4. The outline must include the followings:
bullet An introduction and conclusion.
bullet Definitions to determine the boundaries of your topic, the use of the tabernacle pattern in the definitions.
bullet Biblical examples of your topic in the Law and Prophets and the fulfillment by the Messiah to verify the existence of this phenomena.
bullet Have other cultures experienced your topic? Is your topic universal?
bullet What is the scientific data that support your topic? Give their views pro and con.

Sources

Do not present a book report; quote from a number of sources.

bullet Biblical references
bullet References from the Internet

You should not present one view or opinion on the subject, but various perceptions of the same idea.
