 Iraq & USA

OIL, OIL, OIL, OIL, OIL epitomizes what the Iraq crisis is about. President Bush is telling the American people that Saddam is a threat to his neighbors’ and world peace. The president claims that a country the size of Tennessee can upset the balance of world power. The irony is that many Americans are starting to believe this lie. Unless one is able to separate propaganda, misinformation, and lies from the truth, one is bound to be deceived.

Christopher Bollyn in the American Free Press (http://americanfreepress.net) reported on this past incident in an article entitled “FORMER CHIEF OF IRAQI WEAPONS INSPECTIONS ACCUSES U.S. OF “MANIPULATION.”  The article states: “Swedish diplomat who headed the UNSCOM [United Nations Special Commission] weapons inspections in Iraq from 1991-97 recently confirmed Iraqi claims that the U.S. had “manipulated” the weapons inspections in order to spy and foment conflict by provoking Baghdad.”

He goes on to state: “Rolf Ekeus, the respected Swedish diplomat who directed the United Nations weapons inspections commission in Iraq from 1991-97, known as UNSCOM, recently confirmed Iraqi claims that the U.S. had staffed UNSCOM with spies and manipulated the inspections to provoke Baghdad. Ekeus also said he doubts the U.S. has any “hard evidence” that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction, telling the BBC on July 31 that “practically everything was found and destroyed.” It was reported in many newspapers in Europe, but got very little coverage in the USA

Mr. Ekeus goes on to say: “Concurrently, a systematic dis- and misinformation campaign, one of the biggest ever undertaken by the U.S. authorities, is intensifying. The U.S. and the international public are being sedated daily with increasing doses of propaganda about the threat Iraq poses to the world in 2002.”

Iraq has the second largest proven oil reserve in the world—112 billion barrels. Saudi Arabia has the largest proven reserve in the world. If Iraq’s unexplored regions are included, the oil reserve estimate for Iraq is approximately 300 billions barrels, making it the number one oil reserve. This is why American-British oil companies are drooling over these reserves and wanting their respective governments to act by overthrowing Saddam and allowing them to control the oil. More on this in the next issue of PLIM.

Which Middle East countries oppose USA military action against Iraq?

Egypt: President Hosni Mubarak says President Bush has not provided enough evidence to justify military action against Iraq and it will destabilize the area.

Jordan: King Abdullah has been very outspoken against a military strike against Iraq. The king believes this will destabilize the region. Publicly he says that he will not allow U.S. troops to operate from its territory. Privately, he supports the U.S.

Syria: This country is opposed to U.S. action.

Which nations are allied with the U.S.?

Israel: A firm supporter of the U.S. policy to oust Saddam Hussein, Israel is making preparation in case Saddam Hussein begins launching missiles at Israel.

Britain: Prime Minister Tony Blair is Washington’s strongest U.S. ally in Europe, although his Labor Party and the English public is against it.

 Who may support the U.S.?

Australia: The government has said it will give consider all requests for military help from the United States. Many people of Australia are somewhat hesitant about this war.

Bahrain: This tiny Persian Gulf Island is headquarters of the Navy’s 5th fleet and home to more than 5,000 U.S. troops. Officially, it opposed the military action against Iraq. It will allow the U.S. to operate from its bases in the country.

Kuwait: No friend of Saddam Hussein, Kuwait has expressed reservations about a U.S. attack, but would likely help in the event of military action. There already are thousands of U.S. Army soldiers based in Camp Doha near Kuwait City.

Qatar: Officially opposed to an attack on Iraq. The government has permitted the United States to renovate its al Udeid air base.

Saudi Arabia: Opposed to USA unilateral military action against Iraq. The kingdom will support a new campaign if the United Nations authorizes it.

Turkey: Will support military action against Iraq reluctantly. A NATO member and Iraq neighbor, the government fears the fallout from a change in the administration in Baghdad, because the Kurds of northern Iraq want an independent nation.

What other nations oppose USA military action in Iraq?

Canada: Will not join a U.S.-led invasion unless proof emerges about Saddam Hussein and the U.N. approves the strike.

China: Opposes any USA military action, demands the return of U.N. weapons inspectors to Iraq.

Germany:  Opposes military action. The government is in the midst of an election battle.

India: Opposes armed action against any country since it is a third world nation with nuclear weapons.

Iran: Tehran is strongly opposed to U.S. plans.

Russia: Moscow staunchly opposes U.S. action and has recently improved its relations with the Iraqi government with a number business contracts.

United Nations: Secretary-General Kofi Annan has opposed the United States military action against Iraq. He perceives it is to be a U.N. matter

 ISRAEL & PALESTINE

Since Israel continues to occupy various parts of Palestine territory, the terrorists suicide attacks have declined within Israel. Now Israel has assassinated a number of terrorists and killed a number of Palestinian civilians in the process. There is still a great cry among the Islamic nations.

Sharon wants Arafat to step down and President Bush wants the Palestinians to elect another leader. The chances are that this will happen in the next election scheduled sometimes in 2003. Arafat is the democratically elected leader and probably will get elected again just to spite the USA and Israel. Peace talks have all but ceased so time will tell if the hostility increases again. This will surely happen when the USA invades Iraq.
